This post is for my OrCom 152 (Comm Trends and Styles) class in UP Manila.
For this year’s final project for Organizational Communication 152 (Communication Trends and Styles), we chose brands that are first in their categories but are challenged on different fronts.
Dolan FP is the first ibuprofen suspension in the Philippines but it is struggling to grab a bigger market share in a country where mothers trust paracetamol for their kid’s fever. wi-tribe is also the country’s first 4G broadbrand service provider, but it is struggling to convince broadband users who are dissatisfied with their current 3G broadband to ”move up” to a new broadband technology.
Your challenge was to develop a communication plan, using both traditional and digital media, to address a marketing need for these brands.
Here are the winners based on the scores by the panel:
Best Presentation & Defense — Team Dolandan
Runner up for Best Defense – Team Dolan PowerMom
Best Paper — Team Dolandan
Runner up for Best Paper – Team Dolan PowerMom
wi-tribe BRAND
Best Presentation & Defense — Team #b30014 Motion
Runner up for Best Defense — Team wi-tribe Moving Together
Best Paper — Team #b30011 Motion and Team Step Up to 4G
Runner up for Best Paper — Team wi-tribe Moving Together
Thank you to all the teams for the hard work you put into your comm plans, evident in the creativity of tactics and the seamless integration of traditional media and digital media into the strategy. There are areas for improvement in some key messages, in some framework, in some thought process, even in the actual presentation and defense, but overall, this year’s batch of seniors has once again proven that when Organizational Communication students are given a daunting challenge of working on a real brand with a real marketing issue, they will and they can deliver.
Thank you, too, to Dolan FP’s Risha Jabines and Dennis Dioquino and to wi-tribe’s Abbey Lucas, Jay Reantaso, and Fara Rodriguez for allowing us to work on their brands and giving the time and effort for the oral presentation and defense.
Congratulations to the winners!

Wow, I’m so proud to be part of our team, Patsy, Zid, Patty, Larraine, Anne, and Marj, you were brilliant. Thank you.
Thank you also sir, for a challenging, yet very fulfilling semester. We learned a lot, not only in theory, but more especially in practice. I also believe in the fact that real skill can only be tested in times of adversity, where in spite of all the stumbling blocks, you still did deliver.
I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

thanks, earl. OrCom 152 was one hell of a ride, wasn’t it? Still, I wish you learned something about yourself and beyond social media that you can take with you when you work.

Thank you for the wonderful and challenging opportunity, sir. The comm plan is something that made us realize what we can do given the chance to do so and what’s even better is that we had fun doing the entire plan. Yes, we also did a lot of complaining but I think that will always be present in everything we do.
God bless, sir!

thanks, rhea. some of life’s challenges are not a test of wit, but a test of character. i hope Orcom 152 helped you learn something about yourself–what you can do and cannot do, what you want and not want to do. If only for this, it was a semester worth taking with you guys.
